Why is Matcha The new trend?

If you are like me and constantly following trending hashtags on Instagram, I’m certain you have come across a beautiful frothy green masterpiece at least once on your newsfeed called Matcha.

What exactly is this thing they call 'Matcha'?

Matcha is a form of Chinese green tea, a pure rich powder instead of your usual tea bag. This powder form makes is the highest potency of green tea in the world, so that means you still getting your caffeine boost but this time from tea not coffee. With its rich earthy undertones you will definitely love its with a bit of honey.

Why you would want to drink Matcha?

The new in thing tends to be the hipster craze, don't get me wrong i gave in to the temptation. Not only does it give you the caffeine boost but it is filled with antioxidants, increases your metabolism, weight loss, and aids as a great yummy detox.

Where to buy Matcha in South Africa?

Online shopping has become the easiest in this day and age to purchase goods (for me that is) so have a look at these two links I prefer for online Matcha purchases.

Instructions
  • Add 1 tsp of Matcha into your mixing bowl
  • Mix with a small amount of hot water and whisk vigorously until it becomes a paste
  • Pour hot water and hot non-dairy milk into the paste

  • Froth the drink to the desired amount of foam. You could also froth the water and milk separately before adding it to the Matcha.
People have become creative with their Matcha powder and have started incorporating them into their ice creams and baking. If you have any Matcha tricks up your sleeve please share them in the comments sections!
